What Sets This Community Apart?

This community is best known as home to both Merion Cricket Club and Haverford College. Two train stations – one on the Paoli/Thorndale line and one on the Norristown High Speed Line – serve this community, portions of which are situated in both Lower Merion Township (Montgomery County) and Haverford Township (Delaware County). Students attend either Lower Merion School District or Haverford Township School District.

This section of Lower Merion Township is situated between Ardmore and Bryn Mawr, with Lancaster Avenue serving as its major commercial corridor. Most of the town is located within Haverford Township, while only the northernmost portion is part of Lower Merion Township.

Public Schools in Haverford

Lower Merion public school students here attend either Gladwyne Elementary in Gladwyne or Penn Valley Elementary  in Penn Valley. Students go on to Welsh Valley Middle School in Penn Valley, and then Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr.

Private & Parochial Schools in Haverford

The Haverford School, located on Lancaster Avenue, is a well-established private college preparatory school for boys in pre-K through 12th grade. The school’s campus is a summer camp location of ESF, which is co-educational and serves children in preschool through 10th grade.

Friends School Haverford educates children 2 years and 7 months through 5th grade. Located on Buck Lane, this school subscribes to Quaker values and welcomes families of all faiths. 

Haverford Shopping & Entertainment

Haverford Square, situated on Lancaster Avenue between Haverford College to the south and the regional rail train station to the north, is comprised of boutiques, high-end retail chain stores (including J. McLaughlin and Talbots), and White Dog Cafe. Nearby, the ever-popular Children’s Book World, Green Engine Coffee, Marlyn Schiff Jewelry complete the shopping experience. 

Family-Friendly Things to Do in Haverford

Haverford College Nature Trail is over two miles long and roughly follows the perimeter of the campus through scenic wooded areas. Along this route, children and adults alike can enjoy a visit to the duck pond.

Main Line Art Center features art exhibits and events and offers classes for adults and young people at its facility on Panmore Road. The Center’s art galleries are open to the public six days per week. Children’s birthday parties are also available.
